Cultural Taboos
Taboos practiced by the Malay community earlier is intended to educate the public to practice good values in their lives. It is practiced as taboo as inheritance of their ancestors and those responsible for them to practice and bring down the tradition to their children or their grandchildren. In such a taboo has its own meaning which will be beneficial in their lives.
Examples of Malay Taboos:
1. The girls are prohibited from sleeping in the house or front door pillar.
It said this would cause severe illness struck.
2. Forbidden to eat fish heads, especially for a child.
As a result, they will be difficult to remember the lessons
For the Indians, there are some taboos that should be practiced by a pregnant mother.
Forbidden to leave the house alone at night
Forbidden to sleep during the day or sleeping excessively.
Prohibited from doing bad deeds like backbiting, making defamation, fighting, slaughter animals and so on.
Within 2 months after delivery, the mothers should abstain from doing heavy work.
Indian community to adopt a 60-day period of confinement. On the first day, relatives and neighbors are not encouraged to visit the newly born baby home for fear that interferes with newborns and cause surprise.
There are some taboos in Chinese society wedding too, Prospective brides are not encouraged to attend the funeral ceremony for 3 months before and after the marriage.
Decorations in the marriage is not encouraged to use the white clothes, dark blue, black and green. In the new brides bedroom, bed, desk and closet should be placed in the normal position and not the corner of the room.
Even numbers are often used in the marriage ceremony. According to Chinese belief, the marriage that did not follow the prescribed protocol is an invalid marriage.
